Pr Sylvia Mendez

Women’s Ministries Director AUC

Sylvia is currently serving as the Women’s and Family Ministries Director for the Australian Union Conference and also as a Pastor in Victoria. She is a devoted wife to Gabriel and mother to Sofia and Elizabeth. She’s passionate about authentic relationships, creating safe spaces where people can connect, and coming alongside people to hear their story. She loves God and having experienced His transforming grace in her life is inspired to see this reality in the lives of others. When she isn’t with people, she is doing her next favourite thing, reading books.


Joy Butler

Former Women’s Ministries Director – South Pacific Division

Joy is originally from New Zealand but has lived and served in many countries. She has worked as a secretary, teacher, departmental director, missionary. Part of her working life encompassed serving as Director of Women’s Ministries at both the Greater Sydney Conference and the South Pacific Division. She is passionate about helping hurting women and has several supportive projects for such women in Asia, Africa, and PNG. She is currently the President of WCTU (Woman’s Christian Temperance Union) Australia Ltd and Field Worker for Africa and South Pacific WWCTU. She enjoys bushwalking, kayaking, and cycling in the times she is not reading, learning, and enjoying her home and beautiful music.

Charissa Torossian

Prayer Coordinator – North New South Wales Conference

Charissa began preaching at 16 years of age in Sydney, Australia. After finishing high school, she studied to be a secondary teacher of English and History. Her love for ministry took her to Avondale College where she completed her graduate studies in theology and ministry. Charissa worked for Adventist Media in their Discovery Bible School. She married Justin in January 2019, and together they welcomed their son, Judah in January of 2023. Charissa today serves as the Prayer Coordinator for the North New South Wales Conference.
