North New South Wales Summer Camp Dress Code Policy

The Summer Camp Dress Code Policy is designed to maintain a positive, respectful and safe environment at North New South Wales Summer Camps that is consistent with the beliefs and practices of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

This policy aims to:

Encourage a sense of care and intentionality regarding personal appearance among campers.
Ensure health and safety standards are met.
Minimize competition based on fashion trends and socioeconomic status.
Teach campers to respectfully abide by standards related to dress, grooming, and appearance.
Assist in presenting a positive image in the community during off-site activities

General Guidelines

All campers are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

Clothing

Clothing that is worn must at all times uphold the ethos, values and standard of the Seventh-day Adventist church.

Clothing is to be simple, modest, and neat, not drawing attention to the wearer.
String and singlet tops should not be worn. Tops and bottoms must meet, at no time exposing the midriff.

Clothing must not have any objectionable writing or pictures (eg advertising alcohol, tobacco, suggestive sayings, secular music personalities, etc).
No cross-dressing is allowed.
Clothing must not be see-through or too tight fitting.
Clothing must reach at least the mid-thigh to kneecap. Short skirts, short dresses or short shorts are not to be worn.
Leggings and tights may be worn but must be covered by a top/dress that meets the length requirement.

Swim Wear

Sun safety and modesty are essential for any summer camp activity involving swimming. Rash shirts and board shorts must be worn for all outdoor swimming/beach activities. Hats are recommended.

Jewellery

Jewellery, including bracelets, necklaces, rings, bands, chains, earrings and nose rings, are not to be worn. Plastic spacers may be worn in earlobe piercings only.

Hairstyle

Hair should be of one natural colour, clean, neat and avoiding extreme styles that draw attention. Haircuts during the duration of summer camp are not permitted.

Enforcement

The Camp Directors reserve the right to make the final decision on the appropriateness of any attire or appearance. Campers who do not comply with the dress code may be asked to change, provided alternative clothing/swimwear to wear or removed from general circulation until the issue is resolved. Repeated or deliberate violations may result in campers being sent home.
